Fantasy Garden Series

Disappointed because her own

garden didn't flourish this summer, Wanda Mawhinney decided to create a fantasy garden series of oil paintings, using bright floral colors.

For most of her career, she's painted in acrylics, but after taking a class with Diane Ainsworth she's become fascinated with the blending ability of oils.

Mawhinney is an intuitive painter. She chooses a color scheme, then allows the painting to create its own form and is often surprised at the end results. She loves bright, bold color. After living in Arizona for 30 years, she favors reds, oranges, and yellows, although residing the past six years in the Northwest has enticed her toward more blues and greens.

Wanda is president of the Port Ludlow Artists' League. Her work also appears in Showcase Gallery at Northwind, as well as Port Ludlow Gallery and The Inn at Port Ludlow.
